Spring Break: DisneyWorld: Kids' Highlights

We had a fabulous (and exhausting!) spring break getaway. (Am I sounding old? Is everything exhausting?)

We spent the week in beautiful, sunny Florida walking and walking and walking all over Disney World. We put in some miles! I meant to bring my pedometer, but forgot about it. You'll have to trust me. We walked A LOT.

"Seeing the world."
aka Epcot's World Showcase.
We focus so much on rides when we do Disney,
that we have neglected this amazing part of Epcot!
All of us loved touring the different countries.
Above is a snapshot of Japan,
a favorite of my Pokemon-loving kids.

Primeval Whirl
A fun kid-friendly roller-coaster in Animal Kingdom.
When I showed the Caroline the YouTube video at home,
she said NO WAY would she ride it.
But once she saw it up close, she decided to go for it.
And it turned out to be one of her favorites.

"Seeing a real-life cheetah sleeping right in front of me!"
LOVE the Kilimanjaro Safari in Animal Kingdom!

Test Track at Epcot
This was one of the scarier rides that I talked Caroline into riding.
And, again, she LOVED it.
You have a few minutes at this computer to design your own car.
Then you ride through a test track simulator to see how your
car would do. It is FAST.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
This is the newest ride and is a hard ticket to come by.
We rushed there first thing in the morning and it said
there was already a 60 minute.
Thankfully, they overestimated and it ended up taking less than 30 minutes.

The line was moving so fast, in fact,
that we barely had time to enjoy the
fun diversions along the way.
This was one of the few rides that all five of us
could enjoy together. Very fun.

"Riding big roller coasters--
especially the Mountains:
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad,
Space Mountain,
Everest, and
Splash Mountain."
Woo hoo!

Splashed, but happy!

African Safari

World Showcase
Here's a glimpse of Italy.

Fantasmic!
This is the spectacular night-time show at Hollywood Studios.
It is awesome.

We weren't the only ones who wanted to watch.
Look at all those people!
It was a little intimidating.
I tried not to entertain any visions of getting trampled...

Mickey saved the day!

*BRANDON*

Character meal.
This was our first time forking out the big bucks for a character meal.
We had a late lunch at the Tusker House in Animal Kingdom.
The food was delicious. The service was wonderful.
It was neat to have the characters to ourselves for a few minutes at a time.
I'm glad we got to have this experience, but I'm not sure I'd do it again.
Too overpriced.

Pin trading.
We stopped at a Disney Outlet one of the nights
and Brandon bought a pin on clearance for $3.
He had a great time trading with the "cast members"
to find one that he liked better than his clearance pin.

Everest, and all the mountains.
This was our first time riding Everest
and we LOVED it. We scored short lines
and rode it multiple times.

Animation Academy
At Hollywood studios, they have short art classes
where you get to sketch a character to take home.
This was new for us, too, and it was great.
B, especially, loved it.

He tried it three different times!

Pretty good, huh?

Star Tours.
B rode it twice.

(I don't have any pictures of Star Tours,
but I snapped this one of Chewbacca
while B was in gift shop.)

And my internet is being SSSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWW. We called Time Warner to come fix it last week. They told me there is a problem with the main line that will be fixed in two to thirty days. What?? Lame. In the meantime, I'm breaking this post up into installments so I can at least publish something today. :)

  1. Thanks for giving us a peak into your Disneyworld week! Sorry your computer is being slow, but this was tons of fun to read and digest. Hey, they could make a little magazine and call it "Reader's Digest!" I love that you have each of the kids tell us what their favorite things were! Proud of Caroline for riding some scary rides too. I heard somebody say today we wouldn't know courage unless we had to try scary things (or something like that).Looking forward to the next installment!

  2. Epcot Center is one place I wish we had seen in our younger years, so thanks for some vicarious thrills. Brandon's character looks like a sure thing for a full-length animated cartoon. Has he named it?

  4. Thanks for the update even with slow internet. Brandon's drawings are impressive! On your next Disney trip buy a bag of pins off amazon for about $1-$2 per pin. They're all the lame pins, but then the kids can trade them all day for good pins. My kids loved it!
